BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity¶
Introduction¶
A BMC Helix Operations Management (BMC Helix Operations Management) Create Event activity creates a new activity in a BMC Helix Operations Management endpoint and is intended to be used as a target to consume data in an operation. After configuring a BMC Helix Operations Management connection, you can configure as many BMC Helix Operations Management activities as you like for each BMC Helix Operations Management connection.
Create a BMC Helix Operations Management activity¶
An instance of an activity is created from a connection using an activity type.
To create an instance of an activity, drag the activity type to the design canvas or copy the activity type and paste it on the design canvas. For details, see Creating an activity instance in Component reuse.
An existing activity can be edited from these locations:
- The design canvas (see Component actions menu in Design canvas).
- The project pane's Components tab (see Component actions menu in Project pane Components tab).
Configure a BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity¶
Follow these steps to configure a BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity:
- Step 1: Enter a name and select an event class for the event
- Step 2: Specify settings
- Step 3: Review the data schemas
Step 1: Enter a name and select an event class for the event¶
-
Name: Enter a name to identify the BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity. The name must be unique for each BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity and must not contain forward slashes (
/
) or colons (:
). -
Select an Event Class for the event: This section displays the event class for the events available in the BMC Helix Operations Management endpoint. When reopening an existing activity configuration, only the selected event class for the event is displayed instead of reloading the entire event class for the event list.
-
Selected Event Class: Lists the selected event class.
-
Search: Enter a part of the event class for the event name to filter the event class list for the event. The search is not case-sensitive. If the event class for the event is already displayed within the table, the results are filtered in real time with each keystroke. To reload event class for the event from the endpoint for the search, enter the search criteria and then click refresh.
-
Refresh: Click the refresh icon or the word Refresh to reload the event class for the events from the BMC Helix Operations Management endpoint. This may be useful if you have recently added an event class for the events to BMC Helix Operations Management. This action refreshes all the metadata used to build the event class table for the events displayed in the configuration.
-
Selecting an Event Class For The Event: Within the table, click on a row to select the event class for the event. You can select only one event class for the event. The information available for each event class for the event is fetched from the BMC Helix Operations Management endpoint:
-
Name: The event class for the event name from BMC Helix Operations Management.
-
ID: The event class for the event ID from BMC Helix Operations Management.
-
Tip
If the table does not populate with available event class for the events, the BMC Helix Operations Management connection may not be successful. Ensure you are connected by reopening the connection and retesting the credentials.
-
-
Event ID: Select the variable for the event ID.
-
Save & Exit: If enabled, click to save the configuration for this step and close the activity configuration.
-
Next: Click to temporarily store the configuration for this step and continue to the next step. The configuration will not be saved until you click the Finished button on the last step.
-
Discard Changes: After making changes, click to close the configuration without saving changes made to any step. A message asks you to confirm that you want to discard changes.
Step 2: Specify settings¶
Tip
Fields with a variable icon support using global variables, project variables, and Jitterbit variables. Begin either by typing an open square bracket [
into the field or by clicking the variable icon to display a list of the existing variables to choose from.
-
Event Message: Enter the message to be displayed for the event.
-
Event Object: Enter the name of the object for which the event is created.
-
Event Source Identifier: Enter the information about the origin of the event, including class, key, and severity.
-
Event Severity: Enter the severity of the event.
-
Additional fields for event creation: Use to add other fields for creating the event.
-
Optional Settings: Click to expand additional optional settings:
- JSON input (This event definition overrides the prior selections):
{"Key": "Value"}
or as[{"Key": "Value"}]
. For example:
"directFilterStatusCriteria": { "identifier": "status", "value": "OPEN", "operator": "WITHIN" }, "directFilterSeverityCriteria": { "identifier": "severity", "value": "CRITICAL,INFO", "operator": "WITHIN" }, "advanceFilter": { "filterConditions": [ { "condition_operator": "AND", "slot_operator": "contains", "slot_value": "ms", "slot_name": "msg" } ], "eventClass": "EVENT" }
- JSON input (This event definition overrides the prior selections):
-
Back: Click to temporarily store the configuration for this step and return to the previous step.
-
Next: Click to temporarily store the configuration for this step and continue to the next step. The configuration will not be saved until you click the Finished button on the last step.
-
Discard Changes: After making changes, click to close the configuration without saving changes made to any step. A message asks you to confirm that you want to discard changes.
Step 3: Review the data schemas¶
-
Data Schema: The request and response data schemas for BMC Helix Operations Management are displayed. If the operation uses a transformation, the data schemas are displayed again later during the transformation mapping process, where you can map to target fields using source objects, scripts, variables, custom values, and more.
The BMC Helix Operations Management connector uses the BMC Helix Operations Management REST API.
-
Refresh: Click the refresh icon or the word Refresh to regenerate schemas from the BMC Helix Operations Management endpoint. This action also regenerates the schema in other locations throughout the project where the same schema is referenced, such as in an adjacent transformation.
-
Back: Click to temporarily store the configuration for this step and return to the previous step.
-
Finished: Click to save the configuration for all steps and close the activity configuration.
-
Discard Changes: After making changes, click to close the configuration without saving changes made to any step. A message asks you to confirm that you want to discard changes.
Next steps¶
After configuring a BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activity, complete the configuration of the operation by adding and configuring other activities, transformations, or scripts as operation steps. You can also configure an operation's settings, which include the ability to chain operations together that are in the same or different workflows.
After a BMC Helix Operations Management activity has been created, menu actions for that activity are accessible from the project pane in either the Workflows or the Components tabs, and from the design canvas. See Activity actions menu for details.
BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activities can be used as a target with these operation patterns:
- Transformation pattern
- Two-transformation pattern (as the first or second target)
Other patterns are not valid using BMC Helix Operations Management Create Event activities. See the validation patterns on the Operation validity page.
To use the activity with scripting functions, write the data to a temporary location and then use that temporary location in the scripting function.
When ready, deploy and run the operation and validate behavior by checking the operation logs.
